Working internationally

The demand for high-quality international schools only continues to grow. That means that so, too, does the need for exceptional educators to join them. At Connaught, we work with many international schools and groups looking to fill key vacancies, and we’re always keen to hear from individuals looking to work outside the UK.

Working in the international sector offers a unique opportunity to not only expand your experience but also explore new countries and cultures. British-trained teachers are highly sought after worldwide and not only by British curriculum schools. Institutions offering IB, and other local curriculums are also regularly in touch with us seeking qualified teaching staff.

Why Work Internationally?

Like the UK independent school sector, international schools offer small class sizes with motivated students, excellent resources, vibrant extracurricular programmes, and committed, engaged parents. They also offer a range of additional benefits that can make them very attractive career options for many education professionals.

In addition to competitive salaries, most international schools provide generous benefits. These can include accommodation or relocation support, annual return flights home, subsidised school places for staff children, and a range of additional incentives and bonuses.

Teaching internationally offers a fantastic chance to engage with diverse cultures. It allows you to broaden your worldview while having a meaningful impact on an international community. Careers in this part of the independent sector can for these reasons be particularly rewarding for adventurous educators.

Connaught Education International

Every element of our domestic services carries over into our international work. Our emphasis on openness and transparency, our consultative approach that ensures perfect alignment of vacancy and candidate, and our focus on supporting individuals at every stage: all are present and correct.

We partner with international schools globally and have worked with individual schools as well as premium school groups which offer a global network of schools. In each case, we understand the culture and dynamics at each institution, and suggest only candidates we know will thrive within them.

We recruit not just teaching roles but also senior leadership, management, and support positions. Most of our placements are fixed-term contracts, typically lasting 2-3 years, which is common in the international sector. Our goal is to place candidates that will last the full term—and add huge value to their own CV, and their new employers, in the process.

Making an international move can be a great choice—but of course it isn’t like applying for a school down the road. At Connaught, we support great candidates to make the move mindfully and successfully. Contact us today to talk more about working in the international independent school sector.

Barry – Director of Music – St Johns Prep Northwood (Merchant Taylors)

Kathryn is a consummate professional! From the moment she reached out to me (via Linkedin) with regards to a specific role she knew about, to the end of the process, myself having being offered and accepted the job, she was always courteous and polite. She was in communication with me at every step of the way, even when there was a slight hiatus due to the school holiday period, keeping me fully informed of the situation and at what stage we were at. She relayed the details of the role and the contract to me exactly as it was presented by the school, and negotiated the remuneration package well within the parameters I had asked for. She dealt with the final offer and made sure everything was in place and secure for both parties before finally relinquishing the reigns for me to arrange final details with the school in question.
I would recommend Kathryn to anyone who was looking for a teaching role and would definitely work with her again if the need ever arose.
